Graflex faced a declining market in the 1950s as the world turned away from 4x5 press cameras towards smaller film formats. In order to remain competitive they bought Ciro, thereby obtaining the CiroFlex TLR and the Ciro 35. The latter was thoroughly facelifted to become the Graphic 35, a very sleek looking leaf shuttered rangefinder camera. With a full-range German shutter and a good f/3.5 or f/2.8 lens it was a capable performer, but neither the gimmicky 'trigger' shutter release nor the still more gimmicky pushbutton focusing system worked very well in practice.
